Financial aid timeline

Incoming first-year undergraduate students

Early spring
  • If you are admitted to the University and have a completed FAFSA on file, you will receive a paper estimated financial aid offer by mail.

*Note: Due to the delay of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2024-25, the University of Minnesota and all other schools will not receive student FAFSA information until March 2024. This will result in a delay of 2024-25 financial aid offers. We may start sending financial aid communications about your FAFSA in April, but will not provide estimated financial aid offers until later in the spring.

Late July
  • You will receive an email with instructions on how to respond to your financial aid offer for the upcoming academic year. The email will be sent to your University email account.
  • You will need to respond to your offer and complete required loan documentation before you receive any loans that are included with your financial aid offer.
Approximately one week before class starts (fall and spring semesters)
  • Your financial aid will be disbursed to your University student account.
  • If you have excess funds after your tuition, fees, housing, and other authorized charges are paid, that money will be sent to you via check or direct deposit.
  • If you have additional tuition, fees, housing or other charges that are not covered by your financial aid, you will receive a bill for those charges.

Please note

Financial aid continues to be offered and disbursed throughout the term as students accept and respond to their offers.

Once you have been admitted, you will need to claim your student account. Claiming your University of Minnesota Morris student account will give you access to your UMN Morris email and other University systems. This is how you will receive your estimated and official financial aid offers and other official University communications.

The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) is making significant changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2024-2025. This will change how financial aid is calculated, and when the FAFSA is available to students. The DOE has not confirmed an exact release date, but the 2024-2025 FAFSA will be made available sometime in December 2023. For up to date information, see the Federal Student Aid website.
